Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Two buildings in Baguihati Jagatpur, located in Ward 23 of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation, have tilted dangerously, alarming local residents. The buildings were constructed on land that had originally been a pond, which was filled in to make space for construction. According to local sources, the buildings were built on a few cottah of land, and over time, they have started leaning precariously against each other. This situation has led to growing concerns about the stability of the structures and the safety of those living in and around them.
Local councillor Jhuku Mondal filed a written complaint with the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation, informing them about the tilting buildings. In the complaint, Mondal has requested immediate inspection and necessary measures to ensure public safety. The councillor noted that these buildings, which have been in this condition for several years, pose a significant danger. Despite ongoing issues, the buildings have continued to stand without any structural interventions, raising fears of a potential collapse.
Mithun Kar, the owner of the buildings, has not commented publicly on the situation. The current municipal leader has clarified that the buildings were constructed during the tenure of the previous Trinamool Congress councillor, Asha Nandi, and not under her administration. The authorities are investigating the cause of the tilt and will assess whether the buildings meet safety regulations. Plans for further action, including possible evacuation or structural repairs, are being considered by the concerned officials.
